The last two summer harvesting areas for oysters in Apalachicola Bay shut down at sunset Wednesday.
Areas #1621 and #1671 are being closed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The Department says heavy rain fall and sewage issues brought on the precautionary closure. The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will be taking water samples and analyzing the areas until the sample results are good.
The closure of the two areas Wednesday will effectively shut down oyster harvesting in Franklin County. Two other areas, #1652 and #1662, were closed on July 5th at sundown. The river has been too high for samples to be taken from those areas.
