Liberty County Sheriff Nick Finch was arrested in June, for releasing a man from jail in March, and allegedly covering up the arrest by altering or destroying official documents. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has charged him with official misconduct. The now suspended law enforcement officer says he did nothing wrong and believes he will win his case in court.
" I would have done this for anyone. the sheriff say, and that is what I campaigned for, and that is why the people elected me."
Second Judicial Circuit State Attorney Willie Megs is the prosecutor in the case. He says he offered to drop the charges against Sheriff Finch, if finch agrees to resign and attend a pre trial intervention program with conditions. But Finch says he won't accept a deal that involves admitting guilt or resigning.
A trial date has been set for October first.
