At Arnold High School on Saturday, Ultimate Boxing and MMA hosted the Ultimate Submission Open, where over thirty competitors grappled for bragging rights- and a good cause.
The event benefited the Logan G. Smith Foundation, which provides at risk youth an opportunity to participate in boxing and MMA, as well as Brian Piccolo, a Panama City MMA fighter News 13 featured last month who is battling stage four esophageal cancer.
Piccolo said he is still fighting the cancer hard, and is overwhelmed with all the support from the community.
"I'm grateful. A lot of people don't have as many friends as people are helping me out," he said. "I've been blessed to have so many people go to bat for me and do this and do that. It's overwhelming. I'm not used to having people help me all the time. It's a good feeling to know you have that many people in your corner."
The Piccolo's have set up an account with Innovations Federal Credit Union. The name of the account is "Benefit Account for Brian Piccolo," and the account number is 0052247911.
