Beer Truck Crash Blocks Busy Panama City Roadway

Posted: Updated:

A beer truck overturned on U.S. 98 this morning, closing the roadway to traffic near Sherman Avenue.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 30-year-old Jonathan Rust of Panama City was driving the 2006 semi-truck eastbound on U.S. 98.

Rust lost control of the vehicle, steered onto the south shoulder of the roadway to attempt to regain control and when that failed, re-entered the roadway overturning the truck.

The semi blocked both the east and west bound lanes of traffic for more than two hours.

Rust was cited for careless driving. The semi received nearly $15,000 in estimated damages. Goldring Gulf Distributing LLC reported to FHP that there was approximately $12,000 in cargo on the truck with damage to approximately 80 percent of it. The Florida Department of Transportation assisted in the clean-up of the roadway.
