October is breast cancer awareness month, and News 13 wants to increase awareness about early detection.

Cancer survival rates are increasing, and part of the reason is more sophisticated treatment options.  Doctors say early detection is also helping catch cancers at an early stage, which makes treatment easier.

News 13 wants to help you remember to do your monthly breast self-exams with Buddy Check 13.

On the 13th of each month, you will receive an email reminder or text alert to do your breast self-exam. We'll also remind you on-air.

Click here for the latest recommendations from The American Cancer Society on the proper way to perform a self-exam.

You can sign-up for your email alert here on wmbb.com or text the word "Buddy" to 21321 for a text reminder.

Early detection saves lives!
