We continue our look at high school football teams in our area. Tuesday we look at a new varsity program in Bay County, the North Bay Haven Buccaneers.
For the last three years the Buccaneers have been playing a kind of junior varsity schedule, but this year North Bay Haven is adding the 12th grade and with all four grades now available at the high school level, the football team will embark on it's first full varsity schedule.
The Buccaneers, who are being coached Jared Hale, will have to play as an independent in it's first year of varsity football.
The Buccaneers did get a chance to play a game as a varsity squad back in May during a Spring jamboree game. The Buccaneers looking very good against Jacksonville Temple Christian, winning the jamboree 41-0.
Coach Hale said the team has been working very hard getting ready for their first game and he said he told the guys that what they do this season will be remembered by those teams that follow.
Hale said, "its been a building process for three years now we have our first senior class so they are really excited to play their first varsity schedule it will be the first time school history i tell the guys all the time how do you want to be remembered they have been working their butts off all summer long they are ready to go i tell them every day you get better and better every day and it builds it is a building process they really saw the outcome of the spring game"
North Bay Haven will take part in a pre-season kick off classic on Friday, August 23rd as they will host John Paul II at Pete Edwards field on Panama City Beach.
