Jason L. Wade, 36, of 221 John White Road, Defuniak Springs, was arrested for aggravated assault after firing a small caliber rifle at his neighbor over an argument they had shortly before 8 pm last night, August 13.

Deputies arrived on scene and Wade retreated to his house without contact.  A perimeter was set up around Wade's home and all the neighbors in the immediate area were evacuated for their safety.  A SWAT negotiator with the Walton County Sheriff's Office spoke to Wade by telephone for 4 hours and 20 minutes before Wade walked outside into his front yard and surrendered without incident or injury.

Immediately following the arrest, all of the neighbors were allowed to return to their homes and all of Wade's weapons were taken and placed into evidence.

The incident resulted in a full activation of the Mobile Command Post, K-9 and SWAT units as well as many patrol units.  The Walton County Sheriff's Office greatly appreciates the understanding of the citizens' who were affected by last night's incident.
