Skeletal Remains Found in Franklin County

On August 12, 2013, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office received a call in reference to skeletal remains being found in a wooded area east of Lark Morality Road in Carrabelle.

When officers arrived on scene it was determined that the skeletal remains were that of a human. The area was secured and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Lab was notified. Early morning on August 13, 2013, detectives from Franklin County Sheriff's Office, agents from FDLE Crime Lab and officers from the Department of Corrections searched the area and collected the skeletal remains and other evidentiary items.

The skeletal remains were transported to the Medical Examiner's office for possible identification by means of DNA and/or dental records. Other items were placed into evidence pending investigation.

On April 2, 2013, detective from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office received information in reference to a missing adult by the name of Cody Diorio. Mr. Diorio's vehicle was located in a wooded area east of Lake Morality Road in Carrabelle. Clothing items and footwear found with the skeletal remains on Aug. 13 were consistent with items last seen on Diorio. Identification will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office.

Based on evidence found at the scene and preliminary investigation it does not suggest foul play.
