Franklin County Shellfish Areas Temporarily Closed

Posted: Updated:

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has temporarily closed two shellfish areas in Franklin County due to poor water quality.

The affected areas are #1652 Apalachicola CA Summer North and #1662 Apalachicola CA Summer South.  The closures became effective at sunset Sunday.

The areas are off-limits for the harvest of oysters, clams and mussels but the closures do not apply to scallops, shrimp or crabs.

The agency said it will continue to collect and analyze water samples and re-open the areas when results conform to acceptable standards.
