With confirmation of a funnel cloud near a Panama City Beach school Breakfast Point Academy went into action to protect their students from the unpredictable weather.
Around 1:30 Wednesday afternoon, Principal Denise Kelley made the executive decision to get students out of their classrooms and into safer enclosed areas of the school. Students placed hands over their hands in case the funnel cloud decided to touchdown. Principal Kelley says even though this is a rare weather event she is proud of her staffs quick response, "Absolutely, we decide any time there is any type of threat or suspicion of danger, we take cover. We go into our safety plan mode and we know what to do." Students were in the hall for twenty minutes and returned back to class after the threatening clouds passed.
