On Saturday, Bay United hosted their 19th Annual Endless Summer Soccer Tournament, where soccer teams from across the southeast made the trek to Bay County to play a little soccer on day one of the two day tournament.
The tourney is one of the biggest soccer events of the year in Bay County, growing from 42 teams back in 1995 to 100 this weekend. Tournament organizers saying Saturday that there was a time when soccer in the area consisted of just a few rec leagues, but now, the growth is unprecedented.
"We grown to having five different clubs and leagues within Bay County," said Bay United president Tessie Goicoechea. "We have about 2000 kids playing total, we now have a professional semi-pro league. Soccer has grown tremendously from it's infancy here in Bay County over the last 30 years and we are just so pleased to have the tournament here to help continue the growth of soccer."
This year's Endless Summer soccer tournament picks up Sunday when elimination play begins.
