On September 9, 2013 Officers of the Chipley Police Department received a call at Wal-Mart regarding a suspicious person attempting to gain access into vehicles in the parking lot. Officers responded to the scene and became aware of a vehicle burglary that had occurred in the parking lot.
Witnesses stated that they observed a White male wearing a Blue Florida Gators Jersey, shorts and white flip flops get into the victim's car and remove a purse from the vehicle. Witnesses stated that they the suspect then got into a silver car and departed the area and provided a Florida Tag #.
A "BOLO" was issued for the vehicle. Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff's Office located and conducted a stop of the vehicle on U.S. 90 West Bound. Investigators responded to the scene and identified the suspect, Jon Paul Nordt, 33, of Bonifay Florida, and subsequently placed Nordt under arrest for Burglary of a Conveyance.
Chief Crews stated, "Without the assistance of the public, successful arrest such as this would not be possible. It is always good when we can catch a burglar shortly after the crime is committed and without the assistance of the public our jobs would be much more difficult. I would like to take the time to say thank you to those who came forward with information in regards to this case.
As always I encourage anyone with information about any illegal activity to call the Chipley Police Department @ 638-6310 or Crime Stoppers @ 638-TIPS."
