On Saturday at the Boardwalk Beach Resort, close to 130 gymnasts hit the bars, beam, vault, and floor for Gymnastics Plus' 11th Annual Summer on the Beach Meet. All the gymnasts competing hailed from the Panhandle, and Gymnastics Plus owner Leslie Harrington says the sport has grown tremendously over the past decade, and Saturday's event is always a good way to get the competitive season started off on the right foot.
"They love this meet because all of them are kind of home grown gymnasts to this area and they all compete against each other because their gyms are in the Panhandle," said Harrington on Saturday. "All the routines changed this year, so it's new for everyone. Music is new, new routines and everything, so it's a learning experience for everyone. This is like their warm up meet for the season."
The one day meet wrapped up late Saturday afternoon.
