The Centers for Disease Control recommends the flu vaccine for the following groups:

  • Anyone over 6 months of age
  • The elderly
  • Pregnant women
  • Young children
  • Those with chronic illnesses

Dr. Follwell says flu symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Runny nose
  • Headache
  • Fatigue

Dr. Follwell recommends early treatment if symptoms do develop.  She says treatment with antiviral medications works best within 48 hours of noticing symptoms.
