The City of Marianna will officially be saying goodbye to one unsightly piece of land and saying hello to a new recreation area.
It's called the Chipola River Greenway Overlook, plans detail fine landscaping and access to the Chipola River. The recreation center will be located across the street from the Rivertown Community Church off the highly traveled Lafayette Street. Right now the acre of land, owned by the city, is overgrown. The leisure site will be complete with fifteen to twenty parking spaces, sidewalks and a pavilion to enjoy your lunch under. The Greenway Overlook will have docks that access the river and allow for visitors to look out onto the water.
According to City Manager, Jim Dean, even passing drivers will appreciate the city's new addition, "We're really proud of it, it will be one of those things that you'll drive in from the east and you'll say, "Wow, that's a nice park." We are really looking forward to the completion of it."
The Florida Department of Transportation will have engineers out on the property any day now and Dean is hoping the project will be complete next summer!
