A well known member of the Bay County community is recovering from a serious illness Friday.
Panama City resident and former Speaker of the House, Allan Bense, has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome. It is an extremely rare condition affecting the Peripheral Nervous System. He is being treated at Shands Hospital in Gainesville and is expected to return home to Panama City as soon as his condition permits.
His wife Tonie Bense says the family is overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support and the flood of encouraging messages has lifted their spirit.
She says he continues to improve each day and doctors expect a full recovery.
