The Russ house in Marianna was home to five generations of Russ families. Now there is a proposal for three government agencies to buy it, together.
Tuesday evening the Jackson County Commission discussed the landmarks future.
The Russ House carried an open market price of $550,000 and it was recently reduced to just under $200,000, a price the public was free to take advantage of. The Tourist Development Council offered a proposal to commissioners in hopes of keeping the landmark within the council. TDC executive director Pam Fuqua presented a proposal for the TDC council to purchase the Russ House for $195,000. After presenting the offer, the council called Marianna City Manager Jim Dean to the podium. He discussed the city's role in possible Russ House negotiations.
The council moved to give the City of Marianna, Jackson County and the TDC thirty days to come to an agreement.
Jim Dean and Jackson County Administrator, Ted Lakey will work on the negotiations with the Tourism Development Council. Lakey says the negotiation process will take no longer than 30 days.
