As of Oct. 1, the fee for adopting a pet from Bay County Animal Services will be reduced from $75 to $25 in an effort to increase the live release rate of animals at the facility.
"We're hoping that this will help us adopt out more animals to good homes," Carol Treftz, Bay County Animal Services director, said.
While the adoption fee has been reduced, a $100 spay/neuter deposit is still required, per state law, though it is returned to the pet owner once the surgery is completed.
Also during the month of October, all cats with orange and/or black coloring are available at a reduced rate of $20.
"We want to make having an animal affordable for everyone, and a house is not a home without a pet," Treftz said.
