Bay District School teachers could soon see some additional money in their paychecks. However, the District and Association of Bay County Educators haven't reached a negotiation just yet.
Governor Rick Scott intended to give teachers a $2,500 pay raise this year. The state gave the District more than $4 Million to be negotiated and distributed among teachers. However, that contribution isn't enough to meet the governor's original intention in Bay County.
ABCE is asking the District to still give teachers the $2,500 raise plus any raise they would normally receive.
The District is offering a smaller increase. In the meeting, they also said they have to look into how raises this year may affect future years and budgets.
As of Tuesday, the two groups still have some details to negotiate.
"We hope soon. The teachers in Bay County have waited a very long time for any kind of pay raise, and they deserve it," said Cindy Fowler, ABCE's Chief Negotiator.
The District and ABCE met for less than two hours Tuesday afternoon. They agreed to resume negotiations in about three weeks on October 21st.
