State Attorney Bill Eddins announced today that 33 year-old Michael Dewayne McCullough entered a plea to Lewd and Lascivious Molestation on a Child under 12 years old, Sexual Battery by a Person in Familial Position, Child Abuse and two violations of probation. Judge Kelvin Wells immediately sentenced McCullough to a mandatory term of 25 years in prison followed by life on probation. McCullough is designated a Sexual Predator.
The molestation charges arose when two minor family members disclosed that McCullough touched them inappropriately. McCullough was also charged with child abuse when he attempted to choke one of the victims when she was trying to prevent the sexual abuse. Both victims were 12 years of age or younger.
The investigation and arrest were conducted by the Investigator Bart Smith with the DeFuniak Springs Police Department with assistance from the Children's Advocacy Center.
