The Bay County Sheriff's Office responded to a robbery yesterday at about 5:20 p.m. at the Express Lane #97 at 835 South Tyndall Parkway in Callaway. The suspect had tried to grab money from the register but failed when the clerk fought back and the suspect eventually ran off empty handed.
The store clerk told deputies that at about 5:10 p.m. a white male entered the store and walked around inside for a few minutes. He was about 5'9" tall and very skinny and wearing a dark gray hoodie style sweatshirt, light blue denim jeans, and a black baseball cap. Finally the man approached the register, put candy on the counter and counted out some change as the clerk rang up the purchase. As the cash register opened, the man tried to reach into the register and take cash out of it. The clerk grabbed the suspect's hand and they began to struggle. The clerk was able to keep the suspect from the money and he finally left the store with the clerk in pursuit.
The clerk stated the suspect left riding a light blue bicycle that had been left outside the store. Statements were also taken from witnesses who were on the scene. Store security video was reviewed and the suspect was identified as Charles Daniel Pennington. Contact was made today with Pennington and after he was interviewed he was arrested and charged with Attempted Robbery by Sudden Snatching. Pennington was taken to the Bay County Jail.
