A Bay County Educator was honored on the state level for her hard work and dedication. Sallie Daniels was chosen as Florida's Elementary Literacy Coach of the year.
"At first, I was speechless. I was not sure that that was my name," said Daniels. "However, I am very honored and humbly proud."
Daniels has worked with children for twenty years with nine years as a elementary literacy coach.
She splits her time between three elementary schools, where she provides resources for teachers, helps with lesson plans, and reads aloud with students.
Daniels said she loves her job because she gets to have fun with the kids and watch them grow and learn.
"We have to realize that without them [students] having the opportunity to be able to read, they are not going to be able to be successful," said Daniels. "When those lightbulbs come on or when the students have the opportunity to show you that they've gained enough knowledge to be able to read a book to you, that is the best feeling that anyone can possibly feel and share."
She also said it's easy to help your student read at home. Things as small as reading roadside signs, dinner recipes, or a favorite book with young children can make a big difference.
