It's taken more than 11 years, but the first tenant is moving in to Mossy Head Industrial Park in Northern Walton County, bringing 80 jobs with it.
"This is the kind of development we want to encourage," said Florida Senate President, Don Gaetz, of Loves Travel Stores.
Wednesday, Gaetz, along with Walton County Officials, broke ground in a special ceremony commemorating a journey that's taken 11 years to come to fruition, according to Walton County Commissioner, Bill Imfeld.
"This is step one in building up a 350 acre parcel. Already, we've got a lot of other people who are expressing interest now that they know loves is coming in here," said Imfeld.
"Already today another business approached me and said we might like to locate nearby and we've got millions of dollars to invest in this area," added Gaetz.
That's the idea. Once the light's go on, they hope love's will be the catalyst for other business to build.
"I believe this is not just the beginning. It is the beginning of a prosperity corridor that will lead across i-10 and NWFL and I believe will create hundreds of additional jobs," Gaetz said to the crowd in attendance.
These are jobs that will be permanent to an otherwise rural area, opening the door to diversification.
"Once we build it, you can't pick it up and move it, so these jobs are here to stay in Walton County," said Love's Travel Store's Bill Gleason.
The new Love's location is expected to provide an increase in annual fuel, sales and property tax revenue for Walton County.
