High school hoops is just about to heat up, as next week, several area squads take the floor as Rutherford High School hosts their annual tip-off classic. The Rams are coming off a 25-4 season, but Rutherford lost seven seniors from that team.
On Saturday, the Rams hit the court for practice before they take the floor Tuesday night for their first preseason match-up. Besides the Rams, Bay, Bozeman, Mosley, East Gadsden, and Chipley will play in the Classic, and Ram Head Coach Rhondie Ross says inviting teams like East Gadsden, who made the Final Four in Class 4A last season, will only benefit his guys in the long run.
"Competition can do nothing but make you better," said Coach Ross. "We want to see where we are at this time of the year. Anytime you graduate seven seniors it's tough. You know, we have some really good players, they're small and very skilled, good basketball IQ's but they haven't been though the fire yet as far as game competition an experience. Football season is ending up and it's time for round ball season and we'd love for some people to come out on Tuesday and Thursday night to support us."
Games begin at 4:30/CT at Rutherford High on both Tuesday and Thursday, with the Rams playing the late games both nights at 7:30/CT.
