Special Forces Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

A Special Forces soldier based in the panhandle has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense says Army Staff Sergeant Richard L. Vazquez, 28, from Seguin, Texas, died November 13 in Kandahar, Afghanistan.  He was serving with American forces supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Vazquez was injured when his unit was attacked with an Improvised Explosive Device or I-E-D while on dismounted patrol in Panjwai, Afghanistan.  He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Eglin Air Force Base.
