Bay County, Fla. -

Doctors say Bay County is beginning to see more and more cases of the flu.

Dr. Stephen Armistead from Bay Medical-Sacred Heart Family Medicine says symptoms of the flu include:

  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Runny nose
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Dr. Armistead says the best way to protect yourself is to get a flu shot.  He says the following can also help:

  • Washing your hands often
  • Using liquid sanitizers
  • Avoiding crowds
  • Protecting others by covering your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing

Dr. Armistead says antiviral medicines work best if taken within 48 hours of when symptoms begin or when you are exposed to the virus.
