High school basketball is well underway, and for many teams, district competition has heated up. The Rutherford Lady Rams, one of those squads in the thick of things, and looking to make the most of their season.
The ladies captured the district crown last year, and are looking to repeat that performance- this time, under the guidance of a new coach in Janna Mount.
Although this is her first season in the black and gold, Mount has six years of coaching experience under her belt. She played at Malone in high school, and is familiar with the talent Rutherford's had in the past. Mount said on Monday she's excited about what the future holds, and even more excited the girls have embraced her in her first season.
"When I got here this summer, we had our team meeting, and I established and told them what I was going to do, what I wasn't going to do, what I'm used to running- offense and defense -and they were able to pick up on it very well and they responded very well," she said. "We're working very hard to have a successful season. With them being district champs last year, I've already told them that we're looking to move forward and progress even further then district champs- possibly regional champs and onto Lakeland for the State Tournament title."
Rutherford travels to Arnold on Tuesday, December 3rd for another district contest. Game time is set for 7/CT.
