An electronic billboard catches fire in Panama City a little after eight o'clock Thursday morning.
Lamar Advertising says an electrical short is most likely to blame for the sign fire at the corner of Highway 77 and 23rd street.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire and keep Bay Walk-in Clinic right next store intact.
"Luckily, the building next store had a metal roof, so that helped a lot," said Battalion Chief Larry Leonard with the Panama City Police Department. "The plastic that was dropping on it just left some ugly damage, marks on it, but no damage, nothing to the inside."
This is one of 13 Lamar Advertising's digital billboards in the Bay County. The agency says in the eight years of digital boards in Bay County, this is the first to ever catch fire.
