4 Year Old Accidentally Shot in Freeport

The Walton County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on South Bay Grove Drive in Freeport at 3:30 p.m. Saturday after a four year old boy was shot in the chest with a BB gun.

The WCSO said the boy's 14 year old cousin was standing 6-8 feet away from the boy when he pulled the trigger on a Daisy Roger .177 caliber BB gun and struck the youngster.

The victim was rushed to Bay Medical-Sacred Heart for emergency surgery and is listed in critical condition.

The WCSO has ruled the shooting accidental.

A shooting in Walton County led to high speed trip to save a four year old boy's life.

The unidentified boy was rushed to the hospital from Bay Grove Road in Freeport where he reportedly was accidentally shot by an older cousin.

Law enforcement officers closed intersections along US Highway 98 to clear the route to the emergency room.

He's in the trauma center at Bay Medical-Sacred Heart being treated for a gunshot wound to the chest.

Sources tell News 13 the victim was alive on arrival, but his current condition is not known.

Investigators were still on the scene in Freeport Saturday evening.
