It's been less than a week since the Jackson County Floridan published an article asking the community to support a well known photographer in a time of need. In that short amount of time the community has responded in an overwhelming wave of support.
The Friends of Mark are aiding their fellow photographer Mark Skinner. He was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer back in October. Now Friends of Mark Skinner are calling on the community to support the man who has captured over fifteen years of history in Jackson County.
According to Floridan clerk, Sonia McCoy, the community thinks highly of the role he has come to master over the years, "We had somebody actually call him the Jesus of photography the other night. So he is very well known and liked."
The Jackson County Floridian is decorated for the season but the focus is on Skinner. Along with thoughts, prayers and cards of inspiration, the Friends of Mark are hoping to send a little something extra to Mark this holiday season. Five fleece sports blankets are being raffled off on January 6th. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. "
Since Friday the five throws have brought in over $2,000 for Skinner. The response has Floridan Advertising and Sales, Jennifer Curci, is very pleased with, "The response has been overwhelming, the community has just really reached out. "
Thursday is Mark Skinners birthday; currently he is with family in Dothan recovering from chemotherapy.
If you would like to send Mark Skinner a card, make a donation or purchase a raffle ticket you can visit the Floridan office or contact Jennifer Curci at 850-209-1622.
