The search for a new Chipola College President is over. Current President Dr. Gene Prough will be retiring on March 31st. He graduated from the school in 1968 and later became the 9th President. Thursday night the Chipola College board of trustees announced that Executive Vice President Dr. Jason Hurst will have a new title in April, President.
Dr. Hurst has been with Chipola College for nearly three years and has been in the education field for over twenty. He served as the Vice President of Workforce Education at Pensacola State College for one year and spent nearly six years at Central Alabama Community College as Workforce Development Director.
When Dr. Prough announced his retirement the board looked internally for a president. According to Dr. Hurst, his love for the Marianna community and his prior experience helped the board decided he was the ideal candidate for the future of Chipola College, "My background is very strong in workforce development and where the governor is right now with wanting to add jobs to our state, we are well primed to add additional work force training programs here at Chipola college. I have a strong background in that so I think the timing was right." Dr. Hurst will take over Chipola College as the new president on April 1st.
