Jacob City is a tiny Florida community just 3.2 square miles in size. With a population of less than three hundred, what's not so easily measured is the size of its heart. Saturday, citizens got together for a Christmas celebration that truly captured the spirit of giving. This is the first year for "Christmas in the Park."
Citizens spent the past few weeks collecting donations to make it happen. More than $1,200 was collected to provide Christmas for two families in need this season. Also, donated toys were packaged by volunteers and every child in attendance Saturday went home with a Christmas gift. Raffle tickets were also sold and all the money raised will be given to three Cottondale families. Who were recently impacted by a car accident.
According event coordinator Ronstance Pittman, Saturday's event is an example of what this season is all about, "Very perfect example yes, the concept behind it is just giving back. No matter what the need is whether it's monetary or food or just someone saying we are here for you, we understand you are in a tough time but we just want to be able to help you."
The community was pleased with this years turnout but they are hoping to grow the celebration next year and provide Christmas to even more deserving families.
