Serving through the Holidays

Posted: Updated:

Christmas Day is synonymous with family time, presents under the tree and great family feasts, but for some people, the holidays are celebrated with co-workers. Christmas Day still requires someone to serve and protect or cook and fill bellies, and on a day that most of Americans rest and rejoice some of us are blessed to keep working to ensure a Merry functional Christmas.

According to Bay County Firefighter, Nate Pennington, he knew working holidays simply came with his job, "Emergencies are not partial to holidays so subsequently our job can't be partial to holidays either." Corporal Chris Boyer with Panama City Beach Police Department doesn't see this aspect of his job as a burden but rather a responsibility he is happy to fulfill, "It's part of my job, I love it. It's unfortunate that some of us have to be away from our families but we do get to get a little bit of time in the morning or evenings to spend with our families."

Bay County Firefighter, Woodford Eubanks, believes the community and the support they show help make the holidays all the more special, "The community they appreciate us so much. And they always try to help out to make our holidays better. So, of course we showed up and had these goodies and we had this one family to bring in these cookies here and brought us a card thanking us for protecting the citizens of Bay County."
