The Florida Department of Agriculture has closed several shellfish harvesting areas in Bay and Walton Counties. The temporary closures come after water quality testing found contamination levels that exceeded acceptable standards.
The closed areas are:
North Bay Western
North Bay Eastern
Chotawhatchee Bay Eastern
The areas are closed for the harvest of oysters, clams, and mussels. The closure does not include scallops, shrimp, or crabs.
The Walton County area was just re-opened Sunday morning, but will close again.
