The Bay County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of two suspects yesterday in connection to a strong arm robbery committed January 12, 2014.
Deputies responded to an apartment on Cherry Street in Callaway at eight-thirty yesterday evening. The father of the victim, a juvenile, stated his son had just returned with two friends from a trip to a nearby store when he was confronted and robbed.
As the victim and friends returned to the complex, they noticed a group of people previously hanging out in front of one of the apartments were gone. The victim then spotted two males hiding between apartment buildings. As he walked by, the two males approached him. Both wore bandanas over their faces and began to push the victim around. One suspect, a light skinned black male, asked the victim what he had in his pockets and told the victim to give it to him, insinuating to the victim he, the suspect, had a firearm at his waistline. Both suspects made it clear to the victim he would be hurt if he did not give them what they wanted. The victim pulled a cell phone from his pocket and gave it to the suspects. Both black males ran away.
The victim advised deputies he believed the two men were part of a group that had been hanging out in front of one of the apartments earlier in the evening and that one of the suspects was named "Steven".
Subsequent investigation by BCSO Callaway deputies revealed the two suspects were at a residence on Gay Avenue. Contact was made with the suspects and the victim and his friends confirmed it was the two men they had seen earlier hanging out in the apartment complex and the same two that allegedly confronted the victim and took his cell phone.
Jerel Lamar Davis, 18 years of age, of 319 Jones Road, Callaway, was arrested and charged with Robbery/Strong Arm. Steven Marquis Givens, age 17, of 6201 Cherry Street, Callaway, was also arrested and charged with Robbery/Strong Arm and for violation of probation for Burglary
