Jackson County Sheriff's Office Warns of Warrant Scam

Posted: Updated:

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has received reports from citizens about another scam. The citizen receives an e-mail or phone call stating the citizen has an active warrant from another state.

The person will at sometime tell the citizen if they will send a certain amount of money, the warrant will be taken care of.  This may be during the initial contact or it may be at a later time.

If you receive an e-mail or phone call from anyone making these statements, ask the name of the jurisdiction (city, county, district, etc) this warrant was issued, hang up the phone. If it is an e-mail, do not open any attachments.

If the person gives contact information do not rely on that information to be accurate. If you need re-assurance there is no warrant, look up the jurisdiction contact information and contact that jurisdiction yourself to inquire.
