Doctors say acute bronchitis is going around.

Dr. Jennifer Follwell from Bay Medical-Sacred Heart Family Medicine says bronchitis often begins as a respiratory virus that progresses.  She says if bronchitis reoccurs frequently, it could be a sign of asthma or emphysema.

Symptoms of bronchitis include:

  • A cough with phlegm production
  • Wheezing
  • Shortness of breath

Dr. Follwell says a severe case of bronchitis can send a person to the hospital.   Antibiotics and other medications may also be used to treat bronchitis.  Always see a doctor to determine the best course of treatment for you.
