Often times it is a title that goes unnoticed, but that was not the case tonight as Bay District Schools recognized nominees for the Support Employee of the Year.
Forty-three nominees from throughout the district gathered at the Holley Academic Center at the Florida State University Panama City Campus.
The nominees came from many different areas including bus drivers, secretaries, food service workers, warehousemen, maintenance crew members, and many others who are critical to the success of public schools and support departments.
Each nominee was honored and received a plaque for their exemplary efforts of school support.
This years Support Employee of the Year is Sandi Hawks, an employee from the District Office. She says receiving the award is a surreal experience.
"At first I didn't really hear it," said Hawks. "I was watching my granddaughter out in the audience and then it was like, ‘Did he say my name? Oh, he said my name! They said my name!' I still don't think it has really sunk in yet."
From here Hawks will go on to represent Bay District Schools in the State Recognition Program.
