Demond Wilson Speaks at Chautauqua Assembly

Posted: Updated:

Today's portion of the 4 day Chautauqua Assembly in DeFuniak Springs featured a keynote speaker, who was made famous by a popular sitcom he was featured on back in the 70's.

Laughing constantly, and reminiscing, that's how many Chautauqua members, their families, and students spent the morning at Walton High School in Defuniak Springs.

So, who's the man with all the jokes? Demond Wilson from the 70's hit tv show "Sanford and Sons" One student just couldn't hide his anticipation this morning before Wilson arrived.

"I'm really excited, I grew up watching Sanford and Sons with my grandpa and I'm really excited to meet a guy that I get to see on TV."

Thomas Brannon is the President of Walton High Schools Key Club and he was lucky enough to assist Wilson during the event. But he wasn't the only one that was excited to meet the actor.

"We drove from Louisiana today to get this autographed, it's an original photo from 1971"

Wilson spoke about his time on the show, and he offered advice to the students, making sure to emphasize all of the Chautauqua morals.

"I heard him say as he came in to some other people that I have a special message that's suitable for the kids here at school and I told him when he autographed my book that I think he delivered and we certainly aren't disappointed."

Neither was Brannon, "he looks a little different than he did in the episodes but he's still just as charismatic and funny. I mean as soon as he got out of the car and I said hey to him, we struck it off and started talking about golf. He's just a normal guy, not what you'd expect for a Hollywood guy."
