Small Fire Damages UNICOR Factory in Marianna Federal Prison

At approximately 11:18 a.m., on Thursday, January 30, 2014, a small fire was discovered in a storage area in the UNICOR factory building located at the Federal Prison Camp.

Staff immediately responded and evacuated all personnel and inmates in the affected areas. The Jackson County Fire Department was notified and responded to access the incident and extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown at the moment. An investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire. Both staff and inmates were treated for minor smoke related injuries as a result of the incident. At no time, was there a threat to the local community.
