On Thursday in Lakeland, the Paxton Lady Bobcats took the floor against the Chipley Lady Tigers for the Class 1A State Championship. Chipley led by three, 21-18, at the half, but Paxton came out of the half strong, outscoring the Lady Tigers 12-4 in the 3rd quarter.
With under a minute to play, Chipley led 34-32, but Paxton senior Emily Murray sank a three, one of four on the day, to take the 35-34 lead. Murray hit four free throws late to seal up the win 39-34 to claim the State Championship.
The win gave Paxton their 5th State Championship in school history, and for the second straight year, Chipley settles for 2nd. The Lady Tigers lost in last year's title game to South Walton.
Amanda Paschal led Chipley with 16 points, and Alivia Thomas was named MVP of the tournament for the Lady Tigers. Murray was named MVP for Paxton, and she lead the Lady Cats with 20 points.
