On Saturday night, the Gulf Coast men's and women's basketball team on the hardwood for the final time this season. The teams, saying goodbye to their sophomores, and wanting to send them out with a win. The Gulf Coast ladies, doing just that- beating Pensacola State 78 to 66, and after the game, Vernette Skeete saying she's happy to send out the sophomores with a win.
"I asked the kids to just come out and show the world what they were capable of doing and to play as a family and play as one," she said. "Everytime someone dove on the floor they were there rushing to pick them up. They were high-fiving and cheering and playing unselfish. Tonight was really about sounding off to the rest of the world that at the end of the day, we're still family and we're still one. That made me happy."
The Gulf Coast men, out of any postseason talks like the ladies, but for their opponent Pensacola, a lot on the line. If Pensacola wins, they are a sure lock at state, and it'd take overtime, but the Pirates pull out the 78-76 win.
So, who joins Pensacola at the tournament? Chipola, who beat Northwest Florida state 69-64.
