A Fort Walton Beach man is charged with larceny and battery after trying to steal a bottle of rum
According to the Walton County Sheriff's Office, Thomas Starbuck, 40, entered Blue Mountain Liquors in Santa Rosa Beach and attempted to leave the store with a $23.99 bottle of Jamaican rum.
The store owner tried to stop Starbuck, but was pushed out of the way.
Other customers and an off-duty deputy were able to detain Starbuck. He has been charged with larceny and battery and booked into the Walton County Jail.

On Friday, February 28th, Thomas Starbuck, 40, of 112 Hollywood Boulevard, Fort Walton Beach, was arrested for battery and larceny. Around 2:30 pm, Starbuck entered Blue Mountain Liquors located at 2282 West County Highway 30A, Santa Rosa Beach, and attempted to walk out of the store with a bottle of Jamaican Rum valued at $23.99. Starbuck was confronted by the store's owner who was pushed out of the way while he tried to leave. Two customers came to the aide of the owner and detained Starbuck until deputies arrived. The first deputy to arrive on scene was off duty and eating at Johnny Mctighe's Irish Pub when the owner came inside the restaurant requesting help. Starbuck was taken into custody and booked at the Walton County Jail.
