It's exercise for a cause. The 2nd annual Miles For Madison 5K in Lynn Haven.
"She's an amazing daughter, her amazing smile, her love for so many people, she never knew a stranger, very giving young lady, a lot of good memories." Memories of her daughter is all she has left. Jody Hair lost her daughter Madison in a car accident 2 years ago. Madison was traveling North on State Highway 77 when her car drifted into the median, spun out of control and ended up in the southbound lanes where it was hit by 2 oncoming cars.
"We are here because Madison is no longer with us, she's with us in spirit, she's certainly part of our lives everyday but I'm also a little sad because I see her friends and Madison isn't there", said Hair.
But Madison's friends are helping her legacy live on by organizing a memorial run. Her best friend Camille Valle said, "we had a great turnout when we had her vigil and funeral and even more came out for this so it's so awesome to see everyone coming together to support her and money for the scholarship."
The nurse, Nina McAllister, that helped Madison at the scene of her accident never met the 19-year-old, but that hasn't stopped her from helping her family and friends remember her. "Madison really impacted me, I didn't know her but she impacted me to want to help", said McAllister.
Saturday was the 2nd annual Miles For Madison 5K. It's also a fundraiser for a scholarship in Madison's name, to be given to a high school senior.
Hair said, "we're hoping to continue this scholarship for many years and give it to a senior at Mosley so they can use it to go to college."
Madison's mom says they've raised about $4,000 for this year's Madison Hair Memorial Scholarship.
