Search and rescue crews are looking in the Apalachicola River for a boater that went missing on Sunday from Liberty County.
According to Stan Kirkland of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, 51-year-old Curtis Anders was launching his 13-foot boat by himself for a fishing trip Sunday morning from Estiffanaulga Landing in Liberty County.
A witness saw Anders and spoke to him as he was launching his boat. When the witness turned away, he heard the outboard motor rev up and when he looked back, Anders was missing and the boat spinning out of control.
The witness called 9-1-1 and when he returned, the boat was 200 to 300-yards downstream, Kirkland said.
Kirkland added that the boat beached itself downstream and that some personal items of Anders have been found, including his boots.
Rescue squads from the FWC, the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, Liberty County Search and Rescue and Gulf County Search and Rescue are working the area looking for Anders.
