On Sunday, the Gulf Coast baseball team took batting practice after a few days off to prepare for Monday's match-up with Pensacola State. The game, the first of a three game set with the Pirates, and a game where the Commodores are coming off a week of no Conference games.
Gulf Coast head coach Mike Kandler says his team learned a lot from their last series with Chipola, which the Indians won 2-1, and while the break has provided some rest for his guys, they're ready to get back to work.
"We learned that when we play well we can compete with anybody and if you do things wrong, you don't have much of a chance," he said. "It was a good series. I thought for the most part we played well, that last game, we had opportunities to possibly win that thing and couldn't quite get it done, but hopefully we learned you can't make too many mistakes or you won't win many games in the league. It's the time of the year where it's put up or shut up time so we need to have a good series. We need to win this series and stay in contention."
First pitch for game one of the Commodores series with the Pirates is slated for 5/CT in Panama City.
