It's a priceless gift to help a loved one regain their health. A facility that makes that possible in Marianna does require a little money to make that a reality, a three million dollar expansion Is coming to the property adjacent to the Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center. Soon the two locations will join to create a state of the art rehab center.
Next to the rehab center sits the old Jackson County Health Department building. Architectural Concepts Incorporated is overseeing the project and demolition is set to begin in just a few weeks. The buildings will be joined for easy access to a new rehab wing and seventeen thousand square feet will be added to the center. A rehab gym will be built, providing seven thousand square feet for patient care. Semi-private rooms will be reconstructed to provide 32 private rooms.
Each day thirty to forty residents receive physical, occupational and speech therapy care at the facility and staff hope the new expansion will help them far exceed that amount.
According to retired math teacher and stroke patient, Billy Cox, the facility has helped him regain life skills and independence, "Now I can help my wife get some things out of the refrigerator or cabinet. A couple of months ago I wouldn't have been able to do that, now I feel like I can get in there and help her actually do things, which is good because I don't want to be a burden to anyone. I want to be able to help."
Construction is set to begin in the coming weeks. The old health building will first be inspected for safety and then either demolition or a renovation will begin.
