Alexis Weaver, a senior at North Bay Haven Charter Academy, has been selected as the 2014 recipient of the Homer S. Jackson, Sr., Future Teacher Scholarship.
Weaver will receive $500 to assist with expenses when she enters Gulf Coast State College this fall. Weaver expects to major in elementary education and hopes to become a full time teacher, motivated by her mother, who is a teacher in the Bay District Schools system, and the relationships she has built in the community and her church. Each year the Homer S. Jackson, Sr., Scholarship Committee invites local seniors to apply for this scholarship through their schools. Once applications are submitted, members of the committee select a promising student to continue the legacy of Mr. Jackson, who was a prominent educator and leader in Bay County. The scholarship has been awarded since 1981.
The scholarship is administered by the Bay Education Foundation.
