Dance Studio Raises Awareness by Dancing Barefoot

Posted: Updated:
Podoconiosis is a debilitating disease that affects more than 4-million worldwide and a Panama City dance studio is raising awareness by dancing barefoot.

Fred Astaire Dance Studio spent the entire day Tuesday teaching clients without shoes.

Instructors and customers put their dancing shoes aside for the “One Day Without Shoes” event. The goal is to bring awareness to individuals suffering from the inflammatory disease.

Fred Astaire Studio Owner Brian Price says shoes are the main tool of their craft, but being able to raise this awareness is worth it.

“When you compare it to the kids in Africa, I mean, this disease is debilitating, their feet swell up, they can’t walk, and it’s really a problem and it can be fixed so easily just by having a pair of shoes,” said Price.

All of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio’s throughout the Panhandle participated in the event this year.
