With the passing of House Bill 0191, Panama City will be able to implement a bed tax in the city of Panama City, but how and what that bed tax will be used is what was discussed at today tourist development council plan advisory committee meeting.
It was the fist reading of the plan that will set forth the ways that the bed tax will be used.
The first items discussed was what percent of the bed tax will go to a contingency account. That amount can rang from 10 percent to 25 percent but after discussing the board chose 15 percent.
There will be a cap of 500,000, and that money will be used in emergency like weather or a BP oil spill event.
At the next meeting on May 14, the Advisory Committee will vote, and if past it will then go to the Bay County Board of CountyCommissioners.
